Open your eyes: Google Goggles now available on iPhone in Google Mobile App
Tuesday, October 5, 2010 | 12:15 PM
Searching with Google on your mobile phone can be an eye-opening experience. Now your phone’s camera can even help to find out more about the world around you.
Back in December we introduced Google Goggles on Android: it lets you search by taking pictures. Today, we’re excited to announce that Goggles is now a feature of Google Mobile App for iPhone. Google Mobile App already lets you speak your queries, and it can also use your phone’s location to give you more relevant search results.
In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight the objects it recognizes -- just click on them to find out more. You can see how this works in this short video:
Computer vision is a hard problem and Google Goggles is still a Labs product. It works well for things such as landmarks, logos and the covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesn’t yet work for some things you might want to try like animals, plants or food.
Google Mobile App with Google Goggles is now available in the Apple App Store. Just search for “Google Mobile App” and download the latest version - it’s free. It will gradually be appearing in all App Stores around the world starting from today.
Goggles is enabled only for English-speaking users, and since it requires an auto-focusing camera it is supported only on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 4 or above. Visit our Help Center to learn more or send us your feedback and questions in our Help Forum.
So step away from your computer, get your Goggles on, and search the world around you.

Just a little fail in the video: to serve and sell Riesling wine (German wine) in an Italian restaurant.
LOL.
:)
And when will Goggles be available for Android phones?

I just updated my iPhone 4 and tried out Google Goggles on my Broken Heart Robot toy design, and surprisingly it identified it! That made me very happy! Thanks Google!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Google! I'm glad you didn't forget your fans who own iPhones. Goggles works great on my iPhone 4. Now, how about Maps Navigation for the iPhone? I can't wait to see it up and running on my iPhone!!! Google rocks!!!!

Tried it on several items (a cordless phone, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a bar code, a cell phone and a webcam) and none were recognized. Wonder if I am doing something wrong, but then, that really doesn't matter if it does not work for me intuitively...GOOG, what is the answer to my problem?

Fantastic bit of fun! As said in the POSTED ARTICLE, it's still in the Lab and therefore an experiment and not a full fledged product yet. Makes it more fun imho.
Oh my goodness, when will people take the time to actually read a post, and/or watch the video before taking the time to comment?

Is it just me or the camera screen in Goggles on iPhone does not support zooming? I have iPhone4 and when I use native camera app, I can touch the screen and it will show the zoom tracking bar. How can I zoom while in camera mode in Goggles? Without zoom it is pretty unusable - the iPhone has wide lens and you usually cannot get close enough to fill in the frame with the attraction. I tested it today on Space Needle in Seattle (which should be extremely easy to recognize) and it failed.

Does this mean that the App will be impossible to delete, like Google Goggles is on the Android?

We want this awesome feature on ours ipod touch 4g!
We have a cam, a microphone, what else is needed!
Let's try it, and if it doesn't work by not having autofocus, just delete the opcion on ipod! I'm sure that soon we will see goggles on our ipods.
