Tasks now available for your phone
Monday, February 2, 2009 | 5:45 PM
A couple months ago, Tasks launched in Gmail Labs. Tasks lets you easily create and manage to-do lists right in Gmail. Now, you can access and manage your task lists from your phone, too. Just go to gmail.com/tasks in your mobile browser and log in. If you have a Google Apps account, you can go to mail.google.com/tasks/a/your-domain, replacing your-domain with your actual domain name.
On most phones, you can view tasks, add tasks, and mark them as completed. The changes are automatically reflected in Gmail. If you have an iPhone or an Android-powered device, you can also add, edit, and delete entire lists as well.
Tasks for mobile is currently available in English (like the rest of Gmail Labs). Read more on the Gmail blog and check out the video below.

One small note: You have to use googlemail.com/tasks in Germany to access the page.

An essential element that i miss is the original mails you make tasks of. That makes tasks so easy and handy in Gmail and should be included mobile as well.

It would also be very useful to have an iGoogle gadget to display these tasks as I use iGoogle for a number of things, including checking mail and reader and it is a pain to have to go to mail as well check tasks. Then again maybe I shouldn't be saying this on the mobile blog.

I'm curious as to why the iPhone version doesn't work in the S60 browser, since they're both based on Webkit. The iPhone-specific version of Google Reader works great on S60, there's no reason the iPhone-specific version of Tasks shouldn't work the same. All I get is a black LOADING box in place of my tasks.
Since the S60 browser is just as capable of rendering as the iPhone browser, couldn't you allow it to access the same enhanced view?

I have Google Apps For Your Domain and the setting for 'Turn on new
features' is enabled.
When I go to 'mail.google.com/tasks/a/[mydomain.com]' using
MobileSafari on iPhone, I receive this error: "Bad Request - Unknown
service name: goanna_mobile".
If I go to the same URL using Chrome on XP, I am redirected to the
Google Consumer help page: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/tasks/.
Something isn't right.

mail.google.com/tasks/a/your-domain didn't work for me on my Nokia N810. I found I have to add a "/m" on the end - mail.google.com/tasks/a/your-domain/m which I figured out via http://preview.tinyurl.com/yq6t3w

Oh thank you for developing this!!! I do have a problem with it rendering correctly in my phone i have a Blackberry 8100 and the check box is below the actual task. PS i would also love to see a Mobile App for Blackberry that would be more powerful. But again!!! thank you!! you just took another customer from Remember The Milk. and i thank you for that also!

I'm using Opera Mini 4.2 and I can't load Tasks at all.
I've tried:
gmail.com/tasks
googlemail.com/tasks
mail.google.com/tasks/m
All three return a custom 404 page reading: "The page www.google.com/tasks does not exist"

MAKE IT AN APP for Blackberry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Include this in Google Sync; Blackberry already has a Tasks program in it, which would be a cinch to have it sync.

Is there a way to create shared tasks with google friend connect friends or anyone without giving them access to your email account? I'd like to figure out how to have collaborated shopping lists etc. and docs is a little too much for that, this tasks list is much easier for mobile.
Thanks,
Tom

I like your idea TOM,
I would also like to see a more robust task list.. with smarter input so if i type "Pickup Dry Cleaners tomorrow @ 5pm" it knows to set the due date and time for the following day @ 5pm. Not simply add a tasked with "tomorrow @5PM" in the name. Also i would like to see a sort by due date.

Nice UI and JS/Ajax!
Can we get more technical details about the code? For example, it seems to work offline. Did you use some new features from HTML5 for JS database?

I wish this was a native app for Android and not a browser version. It is just not slick enough.

Chris i have done just that using a third part program called
ShortCut Utility Hub download OTA at
http://www.jonathanhfisher.co.uk/b2/?p=17
and make sure you download everything you need. There is a utility manager and than the shortcuts i've download all 6 just cuz. And i've added an icon to my personal hosting so i can have a fancy interface. If you don't have a website ask a friend to put something up for you. I'd let you have mine but i could see that snowballing. but i do have 3-4 friends who now link to that icon and notebook and remember the milk(not that i need that anymore)
It is VERY sweet works well with OS4.2.... 4.3 and up it won't open the browser directly it loads it in the background but it's better than having to load the browsers and than type in the URL and plus it's just nice to have the icon on the home screen.
you will have to use
http://mail.google.com/tasks/m
Best wishes i'll keep up on the post if you have any questions

I love this. My only addition would be to have it inside the GMail app on Android instead of needing to go to a bookmarked URL.

I tried the one suggested by David but I get an error.

Gordon, mail.google.com/tasks/a/your-domain/m works.
Remember to change "your-domain" to whatever your domain name is, e.g., gordon.com

What mobile device are you using, Gordon? Have you tried the url in the original post, i.e., without the "/m"?
mail.google.com/tasks/a/your-domain

Gordon and David,
not to chime in but it could be an overload in on the server.. Mine has been hit or miss the last few hours saying server might be undergoing maintenance or currently overloaded. I'm on a BB 8100 Pearl from T-Mobile... it JUST worked but could be a cause of some problems with Gordon. Also Gordon make sure you have all the IPhone browsers settings enabled you need and your Google labs tasks enabled. under settings and than labs.
And don't put in the "m" in the URL
just
mail.google.com/tasks/a/domain.com

Sadly no, still broken with the same message as written above - no matter what option I do.
Guess Google has glitches still with Google Apps mobile tasks...

Sorry to hear that, just know its working for other people so hold out hope :)... because it might be a roll-out issue too my google app account (opened this month) just got the new add a document to an event but my email i've had since 2004 is still waiting... And i'll have a few friends with the IPhone try my account to see if tasks works with them.

I'm a little confused, I can see my tasks on my Samsung Omnia 1900 via Opera browser, but is there an application (JAVA) for tasks like the gmail mobile application.
As the short video above shows a much nicer interface than the one on my Omnia.
And if yes how do I download the app and where from?
thx

Chris,
I hope you got yours figured out. But I found another and better way to create desktop icons on Blackberry's download Plazmic CDK. Its a VERY easy to use theme builder and you have the option of adding web shortcuts to the desktop of your BB and add a little icon so i did Notebook and Tasks also YouMail but they have an app now.
