Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 - in the Marketplace now

Searching with Google on your Windows Phone 7 device just got easier. The Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 provides quick and convenient access to a rich set of search results, allowing you to search the web, images, local, news, and more.

This initial release of the Google Search app includes several features that help you to search faster - suggestions appear automatically as you type, you can choose to repeat a query from your search history, and your current location is used to provide more relevant results.

The Google Search app is a free download for all Windows Phone 7 devices and languages. Just search the Marketplace for “Google Search”, download, pin to Start, and the power of Google Search is only a click away.

Update: here is a link to the app in Zune Marketplace. You'll need to be using a Windows Phone 7 device or Internet Explorer for the link to work.

  1. I can't find this in the MarketPlace right now. Is there a QR code or direct link?

  2. Nice to see some competition for Bing. Would be good to see Google Maps as well.

  3. When will Maps features be added? Also, are their plans for other Google apps for WP7 ?

  4. Can you please develop a fully featured YouTube app.
Also a Google app is nice, but the main thing we want is to change the search default in the browser. The default in IE Mobile is Bing, but on my HTC HD7 it is Yahoo.

  5. For those that cannot find this. Go to the Marketplace then Apps then Tools then Free. It is located there, for me, third from the bottom.

  6. It can take ages for published apps to actually show up in marketplace on phones and not everyone sees it at the same. Probably some cloud storage caching involved. Please be patient. I will...

And about Google Maps: a lot of commenters probably haven't seen http://dotnetbyexample.blogspot.com/2010/10/google-maps-for-windows-phone-7.html or http://peshir.blogspot.com/2010/10/google-maps-should-no-must-come-to-wp7.html yet, I guess?

  7. For those of you asking for maps and youtube apps. Do you realize that microsoft does not allow native code. That mean that Google would have to do a from the ground up rewrite in c#. The will have to throw away all their existing codebase, they cant just do a port. Do you think they will bother with that in order to support a competitors platform?

This is also why you will never see third party browsers. Firefox abandoned its port as soon as WP7 was announced.

Welcome to your crippled platform. Have fun!

Porting Google Maps to Windows Phone 7 must be so hard that a blogger was able to do so. Look here: http://dotnetbyexample.blogspot.com/2010/10/google-maps-for-windows-phone-7.html

  10. Also, for anyone wanting a YouTube app, get "Youtube by LazyWorm" app from the WP7 Marketplace. It's an actual Youtube app not a plugin.

  15. This is great, but what is really needed is Google Maps, Talk & Voice!! There are no IM clients in the marketplace right now so Google Talk would crush the competition.
