Since there are so many great phones, we wanted to make the selection process a little easier for people who are in the market for a new one. Today we’re rolling out the Google Phone Gallery -- a showcase of Android-powered devices that deliver the best Google experience today. Check it out at http://www.google.com/phone.
All the phones in the gallery include Android Market, Google Search, and other Google Mobile services such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. There are tools that make it easy to compare phones side by side: you can filter phones by country, manufacturer, and carrier; view and compare technical specifications and features; and find where each phone is available for sale.
We’ll continue adding phones and countries over time, both to round out the gallery and as new phones come to market.

Goes to a defunct nexus one page
ReplyDeleteThe Nexus One isn't available for AT&T in the US anymore, anywhere. Don't know if that should be on the list for AT&T (Google still has the T-Mobile Dev version I believe).
ReplyDeleteAlso, how about a no-carrier option? I know I'd be willing to by an unbranded unlocked version of a cell phone straight up and just toss my sim card in there (which I had to do to get a good Android 3G phone for US AT&T, bought the Canadian HTC Desire, 3G works on AT&T).

ReplyDeletePlease Google advice about locked boot models, "Customizable ROM yes/no" or something like that. You'll get angry Android costumers (like me) if you ignore that. (Motorola Milestone owner).

ReplyDeleteDo you think might ever be a point in time where we could download stock versions of Android from the phone site for use on whatever Androd device we choose? It would be great to not be locked into the custom flavors chosen for us. Similar to the custom roms, but with official builds from Google.
Would be nice if it was a little more accurate. For example, I'm from Brazil and in the Phone Gallery it only has Motorola phones. Here we have Samsung, Sony and HTC at least with Androids from official imports. AND it doesn't have one Motorola phone listed in the gallery, the FLIPOUT, this phone at least it wasn't released yet or maybe never will be here in Brazil.

* be able to compare more than 3 phones
* include tablets, eReaders and other Android devices
* add more line-items, ex: front-facing cameras
* hotlink and/or pop-up explanations of features. Ex: lots of folks don't know what an accelerometer really does for them!

ReplyDeleteWhat is it Google is _really_ good at? Search! Then why isn't it there a good way to search/filter the phones? I would like to specify a minimum CPU power, screen size etc, but there is now way to do that. Come on Google, you can do better than this!

ReplyDeleteA news article I read states google phone gallery will tell you where the items are for sale - however, I can only see the mobile phone networks for the UK. What about CPW, BuyMobilePhones.net, DialaPhone etc?
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! One feature request - could you please have a selection of phones that run PURE Android without ANY interface tweaks or bloatware? The only 2 I know of are the original Droid and Nexus One.

I think that is correct Russell. If you buy direct from a network then you will most likely have a handset locked to the network. This isn't my problem, my problem is that I know you can get a far better deal from the likes of CPW, BuyMobilePhones.net, DialaPhone

ReplyDeleteMotorola Milestone doesn't have "with Google" sign on, so I guess it's not really a "with Google" phone.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice, and it makes sense to have now that Android is becoming much more recognizable to the masses. One thing that really jumps out, though, is that high-end, unlocked, vanilla Android phones seem to be a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteWith all the push to "differentiate", you'd think that someone would want to fill this niche. There's a huge, vocal market clamouring for a Nexus One successor. I really hope one day we'll find out what happened behind the scenes with the Nexus One.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't imagine using my phone without root. I don't care how good android is (and it is really good), I don't want to see an Amazon mp3 app - or any other apps I will never use.
When are we going to get an Android mobile with a decent FIVE-row qwerty keyboard - exactly like the G1 had - but with up to date hardware?

ReplyDeleteJust needs, as some on other posts have pointed out, to me more accurate and, hopefully real soon, more comprehensive. A number of models aren't included yet such as the HTC Desire HD snd other network centric units such as the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon.
Looking for more updates. Again, well done.
Nice! For Germany however you are still missing all the HTC phones. Plus, a more detailed explanation of the "with Google" would be nice.
