New, easier-to-use Google Search for Android

Hot on the heels of Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, we’ve updated Google Search for previous versions of Android: it’s all around faster, to get what you need quickly. In this version, you’ll notice:
  • Faster, smoother performance, with an updated and simplified user interface.
  • Suggestions for your search grouped by type, with web suggestions at the top.
  • Country-specific suggestions and search results for all countries with Google domains.
  • Long press to remove history items.
Search history, search suggestions and on-device results

Here are some additional tips we’d like to share:
  • Tap the arrow to the right of a search suggestion or history item to add it to your search term before searching.
  • Get suggestions from other apps on your phone - check out searchable items in Search settings.
  • Long press on home screen to add the Google Search widget, if you don’t have it already, to access search faster.
If you have Android 2.2, 2.3 or 3.x, you can download the app from Android Market or scan the QR code below.

  3. Very nice, but it desperately needs the option of being moved to the SD card. Too many Google applications fail to offer this feature.

  4. So I try to download it on my Galaxy Nexus and it says not compatible yet it says compatible with 2.2 or higher. Apparently 4 < 2.2.

Really? A new version that isn't 4.0 compatible? Having a new phone is really less exciting when all the new cool stuff won't work with it.

    1. Good question, I've wondered at the same. If you click on any of your previous searches, it date/time stamps previously visited sites so don't know what the point is

  17. Is it my imagination or did you get rid of the icon on the left hand side of the Google search app that allowed you to select your searchable items? I found that to be a very useful feature, since it allowed me to change quickly from searching the web to searching contacts. (Would be better, though, if the search function within People could retrieve data from all fields and not just the contact name.) You now have to go into search settings to change searchable items, which requires multiple taps.
