Shop your favorite catalogs with Google Catalogs

(cross-posted from the Official Google Blog)

For years, shoppers have enjoyed flipping through glossy print catalogs to be inspired, discover new trends and find great products. Today, mobile technologies can make catalog shopping more engaging, social and creative. With that in mind, we’ve created Google Catalogs—a free app for tablet devices that enables you to browse all of your favorite catalogs and interact with new layers of rich-media content.

The Google Catalogs app features digital versions of catalogs across many popular categories, including fashion and apparel, beauty, jewelry, home, kids and gifts. We’ve partnered with a variety of top brands including Anthropologie, Bare Escentuals, Bergdorf Goodman, Crate and Barrel, L.L. Bean, Lands’ End, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sephora, Sundance, Tea Collection, Urban Outfitters and Williams-Sonoma, just to name a few.
With Google Catalogs, you can:
  • Interact: Zoom in to see products up close, tap on tags to learn more about an item or, in some catalogs, view inspiring photo albums and videos.
  • Find products in nearby stores: When an item catches your eye, instantly find it in a store near you or tap “Buy on Website” to visit the merchant online.
  • Express your creativity: Create a collage of your favorite catalog pages and products. If you need inspiration, you can check out collages created by others.
  • Share with friends: Email a product or collage to all your shopping buddies.
  • Get instant access to new catalogs: Add catalogs to your Favorites and get notified each time a new issue arrives.
  • Discover new products and brands: Search for products within or across multiple catalogs to find exactly what you’re looking for.

To download the app on your iPad, visit the App Store. Visit www.google.com/catalogs/about/ to learn more, and stay tuned for Google Catalogs for Android tablets, coming soon! If you’re a merchant and would like to participate in Google Catalogs, tell us about your catalog by filling out this form on our website. Happy shopping!

  1. When does a Honeycomb version of the app come out?

  2. I am pretty shocked that Google would release a iPad version of an APP prior to a Honeycomb version. Probably should reconsider the Mobile teams priorities.

  3. Where is Honeycomb version? I am dissapoint.

  4. Has Google even released a Honeycomb optimized app that didn't release with a tablet device?

Need Docs, Voice, Plus, etc. Honeycomb optimized native apps and soon.

  5. Releasing an iPad app before a Honeycomb one ?
And Android 3.X still lacks a lot of native Google Apps (Docs, Reader, Voice, etc). This is kinda sad.

  6. Seems like Google is a day late and a dollar short on this one. I already use Catalogue by TheFind which has more catalogs built in, and works on my Honeycomb device.

  7. Why iphone first? Apple (I I I and ME ME ME) would not do that to their customers. Where is Google's loyalty to their customers??

  8. THIS MAKES NO SENSE! - even the Google Catalog main page shows nothing but the iPad.. Way to go google, way to give people yet another reason to choose the iPad over a Honeycomb tablet, way to take a GREAT marketing opportunity and screw your own brand in the process of improving your competitions. Who the hell is driving this Google Ship? - Someone needs to lose a job over this - http://www.google.com/catalogs/about/#a

  9. Well, that is all nicely said. I will not support Apple anyhow as to their business practices, their greed and their disregard of privacy that makes the iPhone the perfect spy into your private life. I also dislike to support a company that uses child labour to make shareholders and Mr Jobs rich. Bill Gate made a fundamental fault bailing out Apple in 1998 when the company had filed Chapter 13. I stick to Android and Linux and wish that Google would come forward sooner better than later with the Android Operation System for PCs.

  11. It's a given, that if Google HQ were to rescind Google apps from iOS devices - a LOT more people would migrate across to Android. So it does seem a little strange that Google would be working on enhancing the iOS platform before their own.

  13. reading this thread, am reminded of the saying 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'. So Google release a shopping app for the iPad before Honeycomb etc? Maybe this just happens to be a good way of satisfying consumer demand, rather than playing the same paranoid, control-freak chess game that characterizes much of the mobile industry these days.
