Introducing the Android Market website
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 | 10:30 AM
Over the past two years, developers around the world have helped make Android Market the go-to place for more than 100,000 apps, games and widgets. Previously, you could only access Android Market directly from your device, but today, we are introducing the Android Market website that lets you browse and search for great apps right from your web browser.
The website makes it easy to discover great new apps with a bigger, brighter interface. You can also send apps directly to your Android device with just a few clicks—no wires needed. We’ve built in new social features, too. You can share apps with your friends through Twitter. And you can read and post app reviews directly to Android Market from the web or from your device.
And what about all those apps you’ve already purchased and downloaded? Sign in to the website with your Google account and click “My Market Account” to see all the apps you’ve purchased or downloaded. It makes managing all your apps quite easy.
The Android Market website was officially unveiled today during an event at Google headquarters where we showcased Honeycomb (Android 3.0), our latest Android release built from the ground up for tablets. Honeycomb has a completely redesigned user interface, with more interactive notifications and widgets, improved multi-tasking, and the latest and greatest Google Mobile services optimized for tablets. We also showed off pre-release applications optimized for Honeycomb, from over 17 developers including:
- AccuWeather
- CNN
- Disney Mobile
- The Economist
- Fuze box
- Glu Mobile
- Google Body
- Grocery iQ
- Intuit
- Ngmoco
- Pulse News
- Quickoffice
- Time Magazine
- TouchType
- Trendy Entertainment
- War Drum Studios
- Weatherbug
- Zynga
Stay tuned for more at Mobile World Congress (February 14) in Barcelona where you'll see more than 50 developers demoing their latest phone and tablet apps at the Android booth in Hall 8.

I'm not able to sign in with my google account. Whether I select the "Sign in" on the top right or the "My Market Account" on the bottom, it directs me to a google accounts page that says basically nothing but "Invalid request"

Yes, same problem here.
You know, Google, announcing products that are brittle and break as you're announcing them doesn't give us confidence.

@Dawid Gatti: No one has access yet. There is no reason to believe that apps users are not allowed to use the service. Currently, no account is able to access it, as the sign in button just returns invalid request.

I'm guessing that somebody forgot to remove restriction which stopped access outside Google network :-)
And probably this cause our problems.
But despite this, I love web interface for Android Market :-)
And I'm really impressed by Honeycomb presentation. I cannot wait when I will able to put my hands on it :-) both as user and developer.

Could Android Market please respect my browser settings choice of language?
My pages are full of German, and although I am in Germany now, I do not speak, read or write in languages beside English and Swedish.

Yeah, it works now, including the remote install.
Suggested improvements for the account page:
* Provide filtering on Free/Paid.
* Show cost in user's currency (you can obtain the conversion rate used in the transaction, right?).
* Total the cost.
* Provide download if information on a page as a spreadsheet (csv).

Was getting the invalid request error, but it is working fine. I like this a lot, as I prefer to get the information about apps from my laptop. Also the ability to send it to different devices is cool as well.

I was able to sign in however when I try to download an app I get the message "There are no android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account." I've had this google account associated with my phone for almost a year now. What gives!?

It's working really well now and this is exactly how it had to be (and should have been for some time). Only concern I have is that Apps are being Downloaded automaticly and that's sometimes not what I want to do because my Phone is not on WiFi. So a download queue or an option for WiFi-only would be nice to have.

Well, now that the site issues have been sorted out and we *can* in theory access it, I can confirm Dawid's report that Google Apps for My Domain accounts are left out in the cold.
Sigh.
But then, we should be used to it.

And the site is buggy:
1. It doesn't respect the language setting of the browser, it picks a language based on the IP number - which is a HUGE NO NO
2. It doesn't work with mine and a million other accounts saying "There are no Android devices associated with this account." even though there most certainly are.

You have no indication of the number of downloads until you open each and every app description page. This makes the entire site USELESS. All of it! Why did you even waste your time on this google?

I'm rather dissapointed. There's no significant difference to phone's market. And paid apps are still blocked - at least for some non-US countries. Like the rest of the world doesn't use credit cards or paypal?

Paid app visibility depends on a variety of factors.
If you are logged in, then you see paid apps only if your (at least one?) Android device has a sim card from a paid-app country.
If you are not logged in, then you see paid apps only if your connecting from a paid app country.
That means you now have a choice of sim-swap or VPN to see paid apps...

Any chance of fixing the two obvious bug introduced recently?
1) Why does `my orders` on the Android website only show me 9 random apps from the many I have installed? Wouldn't showing all of them make more sense?
2) On my phone I can only see apps I've not installed to SD card on the `my apps` section, unless I uninstall updates to the marketplace
