Google Docs viewer on Mobile Browsers

Monday, June 28, 2010 | 11:38 AM

(Cross-posted with the Google Docs Blog)

Last week, we announced that the Google Docs viewer supports .doc and .docx attachments. Today we’re also releasing a mobile version of the Google Docs viewer for Android, iPhone and iPad to help you view PDFs, .ppt, .doc and .docx files you’ve uploaded to your documents list, without needing to download the file.

With our mobile viewer you can switch quickly between pages and pan/zoom within a page. On your iPhone and iPad, you can pinch to zoom in or out.

You can try it out by going to docs.google.com on your Android-powered device, iPad or iPhone and select any document in these formats that you've previously uploaded. Let us know what you think in the Mobile Help Forum.

When will we be able to actually edit the documents on mobile devices? Seems like a fairly noticeable non-feature.

Wondering the same thing. Need a way to edit docs and Google Wave on mobile devices.

Yes, lack of editing on my iPad broswer is a huge disappointment.

Agreed with the ability to edit. I can edit now with a third party Android app, but the usability is a bit clunky. I'd really love some fist party functionality for editing.

Umm...when is Android 2.2 Froyo coming out for Nexus One?

When will nested folders be supported on mobile docs? I just see a bunch of random un-nested folders all over the place, its pretty irritating that you can't browse the true folder structure to find docs...

Do you have any update yet on when we'll be able to EDIT GoogleDocs on our Android devices? There is one app that allows some plain text editing, but nothing that allows full Rich-Text editing. And the programs that do allow Rich-Text editing don't synchronize with GoogleDocs. Frustrating!

what about a native android app :) .. pleaseeeeee

I have to be the 1 millionth person to concur.

This is nuts.

And a native Android app is a no brainer. What is going on? I use GDocs which is great, but how can you not have your own app? Or be able to edit online? It boggles the mind.

I'll add my voice, and the voice of many others in our EDU domain, to the chorus of users who are asking for the ability to actually DO SOMETHING with google docs on mobile devices.

What took you so long to get this out?

Desperately need to be able to edit documents. I would have just "liked" one of the others or promoted their comment, but am just piling on since those options weren't here.

edit ability on the iPhone/iPad please.

A definite step in the right direction - but echoing the many other comments - it's document editing on the Ipad that is the real must have feature that I await with great anticipation.

+1 to the "Please, please, please let us edit google docs" list. Google Docs Spreadsheets would make my life so much easier.

+1 for editing privileges, please. But this is a welcomed edition.

Also waiting for native edit feature.

We've been asking for the ability to edit docs on Android since the G1 was released. We've been able to *view* docs since day 1, this isn't much of an improvement.

To all the people complaining of a lack of document editing on the iPad, I would like to dutifully point out as a Google fan that the iPad definitively lacks Flash Player, making the construction of an online document editor problematic. Basically, what I'm saying is that it's Apple's fault.

I was thrilled when I saw there was n update for Mobile Docs, then royally disappointed when I found that editing is still left out.

So I'll repeat what everyone else is saying: Please include full mobile editing, or even better, a native Android app. A native Android Tasks app would be nice as well, especially if you ever hope to get taken seriously by the enterprise.

Since no one is really saying this, but I'm sure we're all thinking it — what about the ability to edit docs? I'd love to have this!

PLEASE create a native Google Docs app for Android that will allow us to edit (and use offline). It's baffling to me (and clearly many others) that this doesn't exist already. Google Docs is one of the most important things your company does!

Umm, Google? ODF is something you actively promote?

Maybe this has been said too many times, but what of S60 support?

at the risk of a text lashing... what about WiMo devices?

This still NOT good enough especial with the folders. It should show the root folder and one click it should go down to sub folders and go on.
then only show the files inside the sub folder and not shown "no files found" It should work some things like musics playlist. else it look messy.

Thanks

Yep, I'm with everyone else here - when are we going to be able to edit documents either via the site or via an app? I can understand the web being an issue due to coding issues in mobile versions of Safari, but what about an app?

should come up with editing options... but looks like they are focusing on Executives on-the-go

So what about this update is new I've always been able to view google docs as HTML, is the update the ability to view doc in there native file type? Can someone explain this

Nice, but when is this coming to Symbian.
Perhaps as a QT app?

In all honesty I'd never heard of Breitling Watches until I went into a store to buy a Navitimer Watches , everyone I knew seemed to be wearing Breitling Windrider and it seemed like the ideal watch that could be worn both formally and for sport. Anyhow, while I was in the department store looking at the Tag collections, the assistant said, that if I liked Tag, I might also be interested in Bentley Motors T .

With all these advances in design and manufacturing, folks at Bentley GT are claiming that Chronomat B01 marks the high point of its 125-year history, with specific regard to its pursuit for high performance as well as appealing aesthetics. Moreover, the chronograph also gives Chrono Superocean a toe hold into the extremely exclusive club of watchmakers that have created Chronomat B01 own in-house mechanical chronograph movement.

One may wonder how you get a great price at a Coach Purses store. The way it works is that every sees in new product goes to the top tier Coach Legacy stores. Many times, Coach Luggage stores have extra inventory on hand. Instead of getting rid of the inventory, they sent it to an outlet store. Even though the product is from the previous season, and Coach Madison may not be as popular for those who like to buy retail, they are still brand-new bags and they are still great product.
