When you go to Google.com in the US on your iPhone or Android-powered device, and enter a search, you can now tap on the button to the left of the search box on the results page to see a new search options menu. Then, selecting any item in the menu will refine your search. For example, if you are looking for recent results for "Mother's day gift", simply tap the "Past week" option.
You may notice that when the menu expands, the search results slide off screen to the right. Note that you can still interact with them and see them in full just by panning to the right. Also, there are some additional menu options, like "News" and "Products". In the weeks to come, we will be supporting more devices and locales, and expanding the number of options available.
Update on 5/7 @ 9:20 am: Note that Palm webOS is now supported as well -- as some of you have noticed.

Good jobs, Google! I liked it, but i can't buy your phone cell product is Nexus one. I want to have it, but i don't have money yet.
ReplyDeleteIf there's actually a support for WebOS, why isn't it mentioned? And if there is no support for WebOS, why is that?
ReplyDeleteNice new look anyway.
On my HTC Incredible the search results don't slide off to the right when the menu is accessed. Instead, the entire page, including the newly displayed menu, zoom out to a smaller font size so that it all fits on screen at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThis is great..
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Symbian!!! We also use Google!!!
ReplyDeleteHow you are positioning mobile is FASCINATING to watch, and I really think you are about to break out way ahead by the end of the year with Android, and the mobile market. The mashed up OTA rates for hotels in maps, the launch of Places for "Local Biz Center", to the 160 character SMS length offers/deals in the PLACES dashboard, etc. Fantastic.....
ReplyDeletehow mobile works now as an experience is amazing... and you have made it so intuitive and simple. Thank you for all you do... keep it up.
I don't mind monopoly's, considering I am a big believer in the Pareto principle. I believe that within a few years you will make my life streamlined and much simpler... than you already have.
Nicely done.
ReplyDelete@Michael. I have the Droid Incredible and the results shift to the right at the same font size. I'm not sure why yours acts differently.
I like that you've made many of the advanced search features easier to get to and suspect that many SEO firms will be optimizing for the top spots under each now that the masses see their options prominently
ReplyDeleteI've been tapping on the button on my Droid but it doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteMy gosh, I forgot Mother's Day was coming up. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, and nice work on the interface; consistency is always a plus :-)
Works on WebOS, but how about updating the Google Maps app on WebOS? It's embarrassingly weak on features, some features such as latitude are even available to it but are disabled!
ReplyDeleteI think I speak for all of the many millions of Blackberry users when I say that we're getting really tired of being trated like second class citizens by Google. All of the new dev and features appear to be focused solely on the Android and iPhone platforms, while we're being all but ignored.
ReplyDeleteThis works perfectly in webOS. Why not mention it? It's not dead, after all.
ReplyDeleteI liked it! Thanks for making my life easier.
ReplyDeletemobiles are useful to touch our religions.
ReplyDeleteThe Gmobile is getting better. This is a welcome development.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Symbian!!! We also use Google!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy only in the US? Hello Google - there is a world outside!
ReplyDeleteGoogle: the search button to refine or edit a search when on the results page doesn't work on Android 2.1 browser enabled devices. You guys going to fix this ever???
ReplyDeleteThe other button on the left works rio refine search type but the magnifying glass button is dead. Looks like bad script code.
