Introducing Google Buzz widget for Android

Since we launched Google Buzz for mobile, we've been working on ways to make it quicker and easier to share your thoughts and experiences while you're out and about.

Today, we're excited to release a Google Buzz widget for Android phones that lets you post text and photos with a single tap. Like other mobile access points for Google Buzz, the widget lets you choose to tag your post with the location or place from which it was posted. You can post buzz about a great meal you had and share photos of the new restaurant. To save time, your posts will upload in the background, letting you get back to your scrumptious dessert without a wait.

The widget is initially available in English for Android phones running v1.6 and later. Search for 'Google Buzz' in the Android Market to download it now. Once installed, you can add it to your home screen: tap "Menu" while on the home screen and select "Add > Widgets > Google Buzz".

We plan to add support for other languages soon. Visit our Help Center to learn more, ask questions in our Help Forum, or give us suggestions and vote on other people’s on the Mobile Product Ideas page.

Update on March 22nd @11:10 PM: You can also directly scan the QR code below to install the widget.

  1. This is a VAST improvement over the mobile web client: great! I do still wish it were more tightly integrated into the Google Maps Buzz Layer (and that this layer was available on the desktop, and that desktop Buzz items could also have locations attached).

The Maps client looks and works the cleanest (and, hey black is sweet), and by being part of a map, it most fully realizes the feeling that you are posting from a PLACE. That's what I think is really Buzz's best feature (and twitter/Facebook are both hot on your tails, though neither has a unified Maps concept yet like Buzz) I also wish the maps layer allowed you to select nearby vs. followers/following.

  2. Hey guys, when you launch an application please give attention to make it accessible to all Android users or just give an explanation about the limited availability.
I have a Nexus One, but I can't find the Buzz widget or the new version of Google Maps(4.1) on Android Market.

  3. Thanks Google for another great update to the Android experience. Really really enjoying Google buzz on my phone.

Now this is even more convenient for me to use compared to the map version. Of course the map version is still good, but takes a little longer to access.

  5. I agree with @wll - I don't have Maps 4.1 nor this Google Buzz Widget on Android Market on my Nexus One.

Wish that there is a way to get it.

Sucks that it is not available to all.

  6. That's cool and all, but I would've expected a buzz widget to primarily show me buzz, rather than focusing on posting buzz. Posting buzz was already pretty easy. The only thing that really bugs me about Buzz is that I can't be notified of all new buzz (as I would with, say, Twitter). Posting has never been an issue for me.

  7. @wll and @mac.n.tux I have a Nexus One, and I have Maps 4.1 and Buzz Widget... strange that you both do not. Anyone else have or not have these two apps?

  8. @Jens Zalzala I agree with you 100% would be great if Buzz Widget or maybe a client would work to notify you similar to the way twitter does or something along those lines.... as far as I can see this is the only key feature truly missing....

  11. Not available for Tattoo... again?

  12. I'm really glad the people still using (stuck on) Cupcake are accommodated for, because backwards compatibility is always important in these situations and Google has obviously considered this. It's great to have a worldwide company that thinks things through.

    Oh wait.

  13. It is really disappointing that we cant have those apps because is not available in our countries! It doesn't make sense!

  14. Not that I am incapable of searching the Android Market but is there really any reason you guys couldn't put an QR code to scan to take me directly there...
But I love the widget on my G1.

  15. I have a Nexus One on T-Mobile and I received the Maps update last night and the Buzz update today. No issues.

Great widget; it's the only widget besides the power control that I have!

  16. Hey Google!

HTC Tattoo is a phone as well, and it is running on your Android OS v.1.6 so please make your software work on it too.
You should actually be an example for software developers and not just another guy that don't care if there is a different phone from the one that he has in his pocket.
    Thank you.

  17. Not yet available on the Droid Eris neither. Bummer.

  18. Before spending time on limited-usage widgets, perhaps Google could make Buzz work in the browser on my G1.

You know, the Google browser on the Google phone that cannot use Google Buzz.

  19. Installed the new widget and maps 4.1 on my G1 but it still won't let me post a buzz with an attached picture from the camera. It just says "Uploading" but never completes. Tried it on GPRS, 3G and Wifi but nothing.

  22. I have a pretty Nexus One.. I have same issue with mac.n.tux and wll... Google Buzz widget nor Google Maps 4.1 are not accessible on my Android Market :(

  23. I can understand Google Maps' limited availability due to the some map data licensing problems etc., though I can still use the older version of the app on my Nexus.
But what about Google Buzz? Why isn't it available in my country?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Works GREAT on my Nexus One and my G1 (on 1.6).

  25. Please, please make HTC release at least a 1.6 ROM for HTC Magic … better 2.0 or 2.1!!!! I'm feeling left out only some 8 months after I purchased a brand new phone!

  38. Great improvement!!

Keep up the good work guys

  39. Since the vast majority of android phones are still running 1.5 it would be nice to have them supported with new applications and widgets. I bought an HTC Hero a month ago and it's already obsolete. Update our phones already.

  40. I also can't find the Google Buzz application on the Android Market. I have a Nexus One and in Russia.
Also, I have Google Maps 4.1 but I can't find the Buzz layer.

  43. I also don't get why Buzz is not available in some countries including mine, Singapore (I am on Nexus One). I would be very interested to know whether it's a legal, commercial, technical or any other bottleneck. .. let us know!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm really disappointed that Google seems to have dumped Cupcake users who'd placed their faith while others were still sceptical.
Not a great way to engender trust and gain loyalty.

  45. Nexus one here in Israel, can't see buzz not maps 4.1. Shame.

  46. For some reason, my location is showing up as if I am at the corner of E71st Street and 1st Ave in the Upper East Side of New York.
I have reset my phone, done a battery pull. Still no luck at getting my location to show up at my actual location.

  47. No 1.5 love with the Buzz widget? Phones like Sprint Hero are out of luck for the time being. No definite 2.1 release dates doesn't make things better.

  48. Unfortunately not available through Market in a Nexus One in Chile. Is this some kind of bug, or you did't make it available as you say?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have a HTC Hero and even I can't find Google Buzz or Maps 4.1 in the Android market. What's wrong! @Google plz answer!

    ReplyDelete

  54. This is so sweet. What I really like about this blog is about the picture or something like the barcode which you can use to install widget by just scanning it. How cool is that?! Also, I don't have to sit in front of a computer to post my blog because I can do it even on my android phone. Lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm still not able install :(
Even I was able to read that barcode, unfortunately this url crashes the Market app :(

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ok, that works great but I still haven't seen any new buzzes appear on my Nexus One since March 9. Not from people I follow or even the ones I created. I get notification in gmail on my PC when someone I follow buzzes but nothing on the phone. The Refresh progress widget spins forever but no new buzzes ever appear.
